Weyler Finds Right Fit At Minnesota

Centerville (OH.) senior offensive guard Jared Weyler took an official visit to Minnesota this past weekend and a day later, he realized he like to continue his career as a Golden Gopher

Centerville (OH.) senior offensive guard Jared Weyler took an official visit to Minneapolis this past weekend to see what Minnesota had to offer. After a day of thinking it over, he felt that the Gophers were the best fit for him and pulled the trigger to commit to Minnesota.

"I went up there this weekend and it is just the right fit for me," Weyler told GopherDigest. "It is just a wonderful place and I just fell in love with it. I think I can help them out and they can help me out. It is an unbelievable school, a program that is on the rise and will do really good things in the future."

"My official visit was great. On Saturday, we took a lot of tours of the campus and football facilities most of the day. That night I went out with some of the guys and met pretty much most of the offensive line. On Sunday I did a lot of things with the coaches. I got to go to Coach Kill's house and sit down with him and Coach Limegrover. After that we went to the mall of America and that was pretty much it."

The 6-4, 280-pound bruiser was committed to Bowling Green since July, but with the late offer from Minnesota that made Weyler rethink his decision. He talks about where that Gopher interest came from and what he hopes to bring to the team in terms of his game.

The whole thing with Minnesota getting on me was actually one of my football coaches played for Coach Kill at Saginaw Valley State, so he set me up with this," said Weyler. "Coach Kill is a great guy, great coach, has great relationships with all his players and helps them be successful. They want me more on the inside of the offensive line."

"In my high school offense, we ran the triple option and we would get after people. I come off the ball really hard and I'm very physical. With that being said, I have done a whole lot of running blocking my whole life, so I will definitely need to improve on my pass blocking, but that is pretty much my game."

Weyler is the No. 90 offensive guard in the nation by Scout.com and a three recruit that held offers from Bowling Green, Toledo, Akron, Ball State, Middle Tennessee, Air Force, Ohio, Buffalo and Miami (Oh), but in the end the Gophers won out and Weyler is ready to begin his career in the maroon and gold.

‘I am really excited for the next four or five years and I know we are going to do some great things as a team," said Weyler. "I am just super excited to be apart of GopherNation!"
