Minnesota Hoping To Dance

With the Golden Gophers regular season all in the books, we take a look at their current resume and what they still need to do to go dancing

Being on the bubble is not a fun life. It is very easy to see your bubble burst by one bad loss, but at the same time if the opportunity presents itself with a marquee opponent scheduled and you beat them, then there is hope to get off the bubble. Minnesota has been living on the bubble for awhile now and with their regular season in the books, we take a look at what the selection committee might be taking a look at on Sunday that determines if the Gophers are dancing or not.

Minnesota's resume

Overall Record: 19-12

Big Ten Record: 8-10

Strength of Schedule: 5

Opponent Strength of Schedule: 52

In their last 12 games: 5-7

vs. RPI Top 25: 2-6

vs. RPI Top 50: 3-8

vs. RPI Top 100: 6-10

vs. RPI Top 150: 11-12

vs. RPI Sub 150: 7-0

Best wins: Ohio State (RPI 23), Iowa (RPI 39) and Wisconsin (RPI 6)

Bad Losses: Northwestern (RPI 127) and at Purdue (RPI 122)

Minnesota just crushed Penn State at home in their regular season finale, but will have to face the Nittany Lions for the third time this season in the Big Ten tournament for the first round. It might sound crazy, but this game is exactly just like the last one in terms of a must win for Minnesota and it happens to come against a opponent they are very familiar with.

Overall, I think the Golden Gophers need to win two games in the Big Ten tournament to be safely in the NCAA tournament. One win in the Big Ten tournament will leave them definitely bitting their nails and on the edge of their seats come Selection Sunday. A loss to Penn State in the opening round, then you can pretty much kiss a shot at the dance goodbye if that happens.
