"It went great," Schmidt told GopherDigest. "I got a chance to chat with the coaches and some of the players. I got to basically talk to all of the coaches and they were just telling me the opportunity there is at Minnesota."
Coming into the visit, the 6-7, 290-pound mammoth tackle had Minnesota as his leader, so did the idea of committing ever go through his head?
"They are still my leader," said Schmidt. "The thought of committing during the visit did cross my mind, but I logically thought I need to wait for a little bit. I am going to Iowa State this weekend."
Schmidt is not seeing his recruitment slow down by holding offers from Cincinnati, North Carolina, Iowa State, Utah, Washington State, South Dakota State and Minnesota while hearing from a host of many other schools.
A new Big Ten school entered the fold Tuesday, when Rutgers extended him an offer and he gives his take on the Scarlet Knights.
"I picked up an offer from Rutgers," said Schmidt. "A coach Facebook me and told me the news, then on the phone we talked about it a bit more as well. I was pumped to land the offer. I think they've got a cool crew over there and I'm not sure yet if I will visit them."
