After coming off a magical run in the NCAA tournament, Wisconsin and head coach Bo Ryan is trying to carry over that Final Four momentum on the recruiting trail. Hosting prospects all week, the Badgers hosted Eau Claire Regis junior small forward Billy Wampler on Wednesday.
"It was really good," Wampler told BadgerNation. "I loved campus and all the facilities. We got to see all the basketball related facilities, met the councilors, got a campus tour and met with Bo for about an hour.
"I really liked Coach Ryan; he was straightforward and he didn't sugar coat anything. We mainly talked about how I could see myself at the University and how my game has developed over the last year. There was talk of offering, but Coach Ryan said he wants to see me play himself because he hasn't seen me play in over a year. It would be tremendous to land a Badger offer, being an in-state kid knowing the program so well, I would be ecstatic."
Some might not be too familiar with the 6-6, 190-pound sharp shooter's game, but he breaks it down and who many compare him to.
"I've been compared to a couple of guys, Nik Stauskas from Michigan, Katin Reinhardt from USC and Chandler Parsons Houston Rockets. I use my shooting ability from deep to open up all areas of the game. That really allowed to me to get to the rim a lot and finish with authority."
Wampler currently holds 13 offers and is getting strong interest from Auburn, Cincinnati, Minnesota and Stanford. While still in the process of narrowing down things, Wampler knows Wisconsin will be in it till the end for him.
"I do not currently have a top list," said Wampler. "We were planning on narrowing things down in July. The factors when I do narrow it down will be play style, coaching staff/players and quality of university. Wisconsin will always be a top choice. It's essentially my dream school."
