The Golden Gophers have been searching the land for their signal caller in their class and offered one of the best in the Midwest in Indianapolis (IN.) Decatur Central junior quarterback Tommy Stevens. He talks about his latest offer and how his conversation with quarterback coach Jim Zebrowski went.
"I was very excited," Stevens told GopherDigest. "I was at my girlfriends school graduation when my coach called me and told me. Every offer is a great one and I'm very blessed to be receiving the attention that I am."
"I didn't know much about Minnesota, but I when I call Coach Zebrowski, I was definitely excited about what he had to say! He talked to me a little bit about the school, the football program, recent seasons and we talked a little bit about how disgusted we were with the Pacers too (laughter)."
The 6-4, 200-pound gun slinger holds offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, NC State, Nebraska, Purdue and West Virginia along with hearing from many others. Still, the No. 28 ranked quarterback and three star recruit by Scout was going to cut his list of suitors down to five, but decided to keep everything even for now.
"I was going to release my top five Saturday, but we think it is in my best interest if I don't," said Stevens. "That way I don't turn off some of the schools who are still recruiting me. I might still release, but then again I might just commit. Minnesota has just a good of a shot as everyone. We will see."
Many other schools are still on the chase for Stevens especially Virginia Tech and Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler, who could be close to offering.
"I think Virginia Tech will offer soon," said Stevens. Coach Loeffler watched me throw Friday and thought I did a great job. We will see what happens."
At the end of the day, he knows he is going to have to make a tough decision and pick a school. He goes into further detail on the factors he will be considering when the time arrives.
"First is school," said Stevens. "Football as we both know won't last forever. I have to put myself in the best situation for my future. Next is comfort. I want to go to a place where it is like home. I want to be very happy wherever I end up going. Last is just playing some big time football."
