Twin Cities Classic Press Release

Here is the official press release of the Twin Cities Classic, which will feature a lot of top basketball talent from around the Midwest especially from the state of Minnesota

On Monday, August 4th, the Twin Cities Classic announced its star-filled roster for the charity event, which takes place on Sunday, August 10 at Woodbury High School in Woodbury, MN. The Twin Cities Classic is a high school basketball event in partnership with the American Cancer Society. 100% of proceeds go to charity. The Twin Cities Classic has selected the top high school prospects in Minnesota, as well as Dupree McBrayer from New Jersey, to play in three games honoring those impacted by cancer. There will also be a slam dunk contest and three-point shootout.

The event will be highlighted by McBrayer (offers from Auburn, Butler, Creighton, Minnesota, Providence, Rhode Island, St. John’s, and more), Jarvis Johnson (offers from Cal, Creighton, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State, Texas Tech, UNLV, Wichita State, and more), Marshawn Wilson (offers from Creighton, Wisconsin, and more), and Gary Trent Jr. (offers from Minnesota, Providence, and Texas Tech). Every Minnesotan with a Division-I offer will play in the event, except for superstar Alex Illikainen, who broke his nose in July, and Amir Coffey, who had another commitment.

The three games will all take place at Woodbury High School’s main gym. Doors will open at 1:30 PM, and the first game will be played at 2:00 PM. The 2:00 PM game will feature Team Fight and Team Bravery, the 4:00 PM game will feature Team Perservere and Team Courage, and the 6:00 PM game will feature Team Hope and Team Inspiration. The three-point shootout will occur between the 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM games, and the slam dunk contest will occur between the 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM games.

"The talented roster and great sponsors give the Twin Cities Classic the potential to be an amazing event and raise a lot of funds for a tremendous cause," said Matt Jessen-Howard, the director of the event.

Matt, 18, has been affected in that his mother suffered from papillary thyroid cancer but was able to have it surgically removed. “My mom is doing great, but not everyone with cancer is,” Jessen-Howard said. “Everyone is impacted in some way. The Twin Cities Classic will be an amazing collection of talented student-athletes, who will be exposed to the fact that they can make a difference simply through their participation in the 2014 Twin Cities Classic." Tickets for the Twin Cities Classic will be on sale at Woodbury High School the day of the event for a $10 donation to charity. The cost for children ten and under will be $5 with a paying adult.
