Nwankwo Becomes A Gopher!

The Gophers added their third commit in for the 2015 class when Florida center Jonathan Nwanko decided to pull the trigger and commit to Minnesota

Richard Pitino and the Golden Gophers added their third commitment to the 2015 class when Victory Rock Prep (FL.) senior center Jonathan Nwankwo. The big man is currently on campus this weekend for a official visit. Coming into the visit, it was thought that he held Minnesota in high regards and really liked what they had going on there.

The 6-10, 245-pound center held offers from Boston College, Drexel, Fordham, Manhattan, Monmouth (NJ.), Niagara, Rice and Tennessee. He also heard from host of others in Alabama, Connecticut, George Washington, Georgetown, Iona, Marquette, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh, Princeton, Rutgers, Stanford, Temple, Vanderbilt, VCU and Yale.

Nwankwo joins the class with guards Kevin Dorsey and Dupree McBrayer. He will now provide some depth to that backcourt after Elliot Eliason and Mo Walker graduate. With his game, he is very physical and finishes around the rim well but he still needs to work on his post game. That will come with time and development under the Gopher coaching staff. His hometown is New York and he lived in the Bronx. As far as recruiting, I fully expect Minnesota to aggressively pursue MN PG Jarvis Johnson still and MN PF Alex Illikainen.
