The Gophers picked up another piece to their class when Geismar (LA.) Dutchtown senior safety Alonzo Craighton decided to become a Golden Gopher. He becomes the fifth tenth commit in the class and the fourth defensive back joining Jacob Huff, Ray Buford and Antonio Shenault. Minnesota also landed their first commit from the Pelican State, which features a lot of talent.
The 6-2, 180-pound hard hitting safety chose Minnesota over offers from Appalachian State, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana Lafayette and Memphis. He also was receiving interest from Miami (Fl.), Mississippi and Mississippi State. He also is a two star recruit by Scout as well.
Craighton took an official visit to Minneapolis earlier this season and felt the visit went very good. He also stated that, “My favorite part of the visit had to be the game. The energy I felt was what I liked about it.” The Gophers are getting a lanky and athletic defensive back that should be a good fit for what secondary coach Jay Sawvel is looking to work with.
