The Gophers hosted several prospects this past weekend and got to see their exciting comeback win against the Boilermakers to become bowl eligible. One of those visitors on hand was Suwanee (GA.) North Gwinnett senior wide receiver and Minnesota commit, Almonzo Brown. He talks about his official visit to Minneapolis and everything he got to do.
“The visit went great,” Brown told GopherDigest. “We got to tour around and got to hang out with the players a lot. I didn’t really get the opportunity to hang out with players last time I visited. It was a fun time and the game was great. We talked with the coaches and got to watch a little film on how they would use me and other stuff like that. It was just a great visit.”
“I felt good about the film when I sat down with the coaches. They showed that they have high interest in me and they know what they are talking about, how they are going to use me, what they want to do. It is a great fit for me.”
The 6-2, 220-pound wide out didn’t make the trek up alone as his teammate in senior defensive end Anree Saint-Amour made the trip up as well and it definitely was better than expected for Amour.
“Anree loved it,” said Brown of his teammate’s experience. “Before we went down there, he told me that it is kind of cold in Minnesota and complaining like I don’t know if that is really where I want to go. On the way back home, he told me that he knows why I want to go there (laughter). He loved it and fell in love with Minnesota! It would be great if I could play with him. He is one of my buddies and we know each other well. We go over to each other’s house and that is my boy.”
Brown also put on his recruiting hat for the other recruits, but feels there is not a lot of selling he has to do when it comes to what Minnesota all has to offer.
“I got to talk to Hunter Register and he is another wide receiver,” said Brown. “He hasn’t committed yet, but he has high interest in Minnesota. I was trying to recruit him like come on man, you got to come here. I tell guys that they accept you there and tell them how could you not want to be around the mall. I mean it is the Twin Cities. Everything is here, so what else do you need? I am always a good business man and sales man in trying to help recruit guys.”
While Brown got to see and experience plenty of things during his time on official visit, he couldn’t get over how thrilling the game was, which was why he gave the edge to the Gophers win.
“I loved the game,” said Brown. “That is barely over everything, but how the game ended with the pick with our guy diving over the other guy was a great game. I got to see the atmosphere and got to see all the Gopher fans going crazy. Hanging out with the players and coaches was all great along with the food being amazing, but the game was memorable.”
