The University of Minnesota head men's basketball coach Richard Pitino announced this past Wednesday the dismissal of junior guard Zach Lofton from the team and effective immediately. The reason behind his dismissal was for failing to meet the expectations and obligations of the team.
“While decisions like this are always difficult, we felt it was in the interest of our program to move forward at this time. We wish Zach nothing but the best in the future" Head Coach Richard Pitino said later in the release.
The 6-4, 200-pound, Saint Paul native, transferred to Minnesota this semester from Illinois State. Lofton will be able to remain at the University under scholarship for the duration of the 2014-15 academic year.
The Gophers open the season on Friday, November 14, when they face Louisville in the ESPN Armed Forces Classic at Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico.
