After being committed to Minnesota for awhile, Suwanee (GA.) North Gwinnett senior wide receiver Almonzo Brown reopened his recruitment and decided to explore his options. The talented Peach State wide out explains his decision to decommit and if he is still considering the Gophers?
“I wanted to open up and look at my options,” Brown told GopherDigest. “I still love Minnesota and they are still No. 1 and up there. I wanted to open up and coach understood. Florida has been kind of hot on me right now with the new coaching staff, not from my standpoint, but their standpoint. I am not saying I will go to Florida, but I love Florida and my dad graduated from there. I am also hearing from Kansas State, Iowa, Boston College, Nebraska and Wisconsin.”
One of the main reasons the three star 6-2, 220-pound wide out thought he should go back on the market was his moral feeling towards taking visits.
“Definitely I plan on visiting schools and that is one of the things that made me decommit and really that was the huge thing,” said Brown. “I wanted to go on visits without feeling that pressure within myself. The coaching staff at Minnesota were very okay with letting me take visits and didn’t mind with it. It was just one of those things within myself and I feel like being able to take a visit is like not being committed at the same time. It is like having a girlfriend, but also shopping around for other girlfriends and I don’t think that is fair.”
With Signing Day less than two months away, the recruiting process is becoming more and more hectic for many recruits including Brown. He plans to venture around the country visiting various schools next month and he has a few places in mind.“I know I am taking visits to Florida and Marshall on the 12th and 16th of next month, but I am not sure which one is on what day again,” said Brown. I do know I am visiting those schools. As for an final decision, I have no idea, but I mean of course before Signing Day (laughter).”
