On Sunday, Minnesota lost one of their most explosive playmakers on the outside in sophomore wide receiver Donovahn Jones. The Gophers dismissed him from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules according to several reports.
What will the Gophers be losing? Jones had started nine games tis year making 11 catches for 253 yards and two touchdowns. They will obviously also lose depth in the wide receiver department, which will leave wide outs Drew Wolitarsky, Isaac Fruechte and K.J. Maye. The rest of the wide receivers on the Gopher roster have not even recorded a catch yet in their career.
The No. 25 ranked Minnesota Gophers will play the No. 16 ranked and SEC East champs Missouri Tigers in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. CST kickoff in Orlando, Florida. This is the Gophers first appearance in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl and first January bowl game since 1962 when they beat UCLA 21-3 on Jan 1, in the Rose Bowl.
Back in his recruitment, Jones was committed to Missouri, but flipped his commitment to Minnesota on Signing Day. Very interesting storyline heading into this game, but has seen his Gopher career come to an end.
