While Minnesota has racked up the commitments recently, they have also received some pledges from walk-ons. Battle Creek (MI.) Lakeview senior punter Jacob Herbers accepted a preferred walk-on offer to Minnesota and talks about why he made that decision.
“It was the best fit for me academically and athletically,” Herbers told GopherDigest. “I had a great relationship with Coach (Jay) Nunez and they treat walk-ons the same as scholarship players. The Minneapolis area was very appealing to me internship wise for my pursuits in engineering.”
The 6-2, 195-pound punter took an official visit to Minneapolis this past weekend and reflects back at how it went.
“Last weekend, I visited Minnesota,” said Herbers. “It went really well. I was very impressed with where the football program is going.”
After becoming a Gopher, Herbers is now just ready to start his career at Minnesota.“I’m ready to move onto the next phase in life and really focus on being good at one sport,” said Herbers. “My focus will be punting and I can’t wait.”
