The Gophers added much needed depth on the offensive line in their 2015 recruiting class signing five massive offensive linemen. Minnesota is still looking to bring in more beef for their next recruiting class and offered a top Midwest lineman in Indianapolis (IN.) Decatur Central junior offensive guard Trent Maynard. Gopher offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover came in his school recently and a couple hours later Maynard held a Minnesota offer in his hand.
“Coach Limegrover came into school and wanted to see how I looked in person and not just on film,” Maynard told BadgerNation. “We talked for a few minutes and that was that. A couple hours after school, Coach Dixson told me to call him, so I did that. That’s what I first found out about the offer. It felt great that it happened that day he came in. They made a huge impact in the Big Ten and the entire country. They’re definitely on the uprise.”
“One thing I for sure know is that it’s a long trip! Geographically it’d be tough for me to get to campus and take a visit. Minnesota has an amazing campus from what I’ve seen on the internet and from what I’ve heard. Their fans are unbelievable too. I got a lot of support and love once Gopher Nation knew about the offer.”
The 6-4, 285-pound physical offensive lineman is already a three star on Scout and early on has seen his recruitment rise.
“My recruitment is going great,” said Maynard. “I’m now starting to figure out where all I’ll visit here soon. I have offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern, Miami (OH.), Western Michigan and now Minnesota.”
“I have a few favorites so far, but that can change at any given time. I’m not trying to rush anything, I want to take my time and make sure I can make a strong commitment to whenever school I decide.”
After receiving an offer from the Gophers, how likely is it to see Maynard visit Minneapolis sometime in the future?
“I really do hope so (to visit Minnesota), whether it’s an unofficial or official, junior day, camp, spring game or anything,” said Maynard. “I don’t know how soon it’ll be, but I definitely want to get to campus.”
