This past season Wayzata (MN.) junior middle linebacker Foster Conzet displayed why he is one of the top linebackers in the state with his leadership and production. The instinctive and hard hitting linebacker compiled 86 tackles, 4 sacks and 11 tackles for loss over the season and became a target for several schools including the Gophers.
He recently made it to Minneapolis to check out a spring practice and got the chance to talk to a few coaches in linebacker coach Mike Sherels and tight end coach Rob Reeves.
“It was a lot of fun,” Conzet told GopherDigest. “I got to sit in on the middle linebacker meetings and watch film. I then went out and watched the spring practice. I looked around the facilities and really enjoyed it.”
“I talked to Coach Sherels quite a bit and also to Reeves a little. Coach Sherels said he wants to see how I have improved from last year’s camp this summer. He said to keep working hard. I told him I signed up for camp and he was pumped. I want to really impress him.”
The 6-3, 221-pound Conzet has really hit it off with Coach Sherels and really loves his coaching method, which has him even more interested in the Gophers and hoping to still land that dream offer.
“I love the way (Coach Sherels) interacts with his players,” said Conzet. “He is more of a brother than a coach. He’s a lot of fun and has plenty of inside jokes with all of them. He can be plenty serious when he needs to be though, which I like.”
“I’m very interested in Minnesota. It has always been a dream of mine to play for the maroon and gold. Seeing 2 or 3 former teammates go on and play and be successful is a lot of motivation for me. It would be a dream come true if they offered! I would be honored. I wouldn’t stop working. I want to make my hometown team the best it can be.”
While Kramer is receiving interest from the Gophers, he is hearing from a lengthy list of other suitors and will be having a busy traveling schedule coming up.
“I am hearing a lot from Wisconsin, Iowa, Northern Illinois, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota State, North Dakota, South Dakota State, South Dakota, Northern Iowa, Cincinnati along with Yale, Princeton, Harvard and Cornell,” said Conzet. “I’m going to Madison to tour there on Friday morning, then heading to Northern Illinois Friday night and back to Minnesota on Saturday morning. It will be a busy three days (laughter). I’m also taking a visit to Northern Iowa on April 11th. I’m excited to see what happens there.”
