Daniels twins commit to Minnesota
"I called up Coach Sawvel on Saturday and committed," Elisha Daniels told GopherDigest.com. "He didn't expect it, but he was very happy about our commitment none the less. I just liked the feel of what defensive coordinator Tracy Clayes had to say when he offered me. I was going to commit to Pittsburgh this weekend with Elijah, but we camped there and they didn't offer me, so we decided on Minnesota. I just like that they have a good program that competes in the Big Ten every year."
The Gophers actually got some help from other South Florida players in landing the Fort Lauderdale Twins.
"We're friends with Wyatt Ray and he told an official to Minnesota and loved it, and we trust what he has to say," Elisha Daniels explained. "I'm not sure if we'll be visiting Minnesota this summer, or just for our official visit in the fall, but it'll be soon. We still plan on taking official visits elsewhere though this fall. I want to take all five actually. Minnesota told me they like me at corner, even though this spring was the first time I've played there. Coach Claeys was at one of our practices and he likes how physical I am at the line and how I have the speed to cover man to man. Playing together with Elijah has been a dream for us as we love being on the field together and we do everything together."
"I talked with Coach Sawvel as well and he was really surprised we decided on Minnesota as we just couldn't miss that kind of opportunity," Elijah Daniels said. "The Gophers have a great program and their coaching staff has a plan and that's to put Minnesota on the map. My brother and I think bringing a little south Florida spice will help it out. My mom and dad were all for Minnesota and supported us fully."
Minnesota's success with defensive backs in recent years definitely played a part in their decision.
"I've been very interested since the offer as they send a lot of defensive backs to the league and that's what my ultimate goal is," Elijah Daniels explained to GopherDigest. "Coach Claeys when he offered me told me how he loves how I make plays and can come down hill and hit you. He also likes my coverage skills as a safety. Elisha and I always wanted to play together as we've been doing it our whole lives so why stop now. I want Gopher fans to expect Elisha and I to be buck wild and flip the script up in Minnesota."
