Odessa (Texas) Permian cornerback Desmon Smith has an offer list over ten school deep and one of his more recent offers came from the Golden Gophers. GopherDigest caught up with the Texas corner to hear more about his recruiting.

"Coach Pat Poore is the one who offered and that was about a week ago now," Smith said to GopherDigest. "He basically said that they love my size and physicality and how I attack the ball. He said we'll catch up more on the program soon and that the offer is at corner. I don't know much about them except I think they were ranked like eightieth country last year at some point, so I have some more research to do on them."

Minnesota going in early on Smith is now paying dividends.

"I've been waiting on this offer for awhile now as they were the first school to send me mail," Smith explained. "I like Coach Poore, but I have to find out more on the campus and school. We also talked about an official visit and it's a good chance I take one to Minneapolis. I also talked with the defensive coordinator Coach Claeys a few days ago and he told me that they love my style of play. Most of the phone call was spent talking about family and school and my grades, so I'm intrigued by the offer."

The Permian corner has a few more visits and camps this summer before his senior season.

"I just camped at Baylor last weekend and I'll be camping at Oklahoma State and Texas Tech this weekend," Smith told GopherDigest. "I'm really working on my technique and speed as you always have technical things to work on and it wouldn't hurt to be faster as well. I'm very interested in Minnesota, so we'll see what happens."
