Manheim (Pa.) punter Derek Adams has been making the rounds across the country this summer trying to earn a scholarship, including a stop in the Twin Cities last week. After catching the eye of the Gopher coaches, Adams spoke with GopherDigest about his Minnesota interest.

"I've been to Florida State, Georgia, Northwestern and Minnesota for camps thus far," Adams explained. "I have Clemson, Penn State and Boston College a little bit later this summer, so I'm seeing a lot of the US here. I have a preferred walk-on from Western Michigan, but that's my only opportunity right now. I've been getting top three at all of these camps, so hopefully I get some more offers and PWO's going forward."

Adams thought his camp performance at Minnesota was one of his best so far.

"I felt like I nailed it there," Adams said to GopherDigest. "I hit the biggest ball and I charted very well, so I either got first or second when I was there. I punted only there, so we hit balls as far and high as we could straight and then also directionally kicked. I spoke with the special teams coordinator, Jay Nunez a lot and he liked what he saw. He said that I had a very fast and explosive leg as I when I connected, the ball just took off. I did enough to impress him and that he'll keep in touch."

The Pennsylvania punter enjoyed seeing all of what Minnesota has to offer.

"I thought the facilities at Minnesota were top notch and I loved them," Adams told GopherDigest. "They were probably the best stadium and facilities I've seen so far. Plus they're going to make the facilities much better soon. The campus was awesome as well and I would love to be a Gopher. Not only to be coached by Coach Nunez, but because of all the amenities they have. The distance wasn't bad at all as it's only a two and a half hour plane ride. I'm going to take my time with recruiting here and see where things go."
