Minnesota has one of the top performers from the Nike Sparq camps on campus yesterday in Grandville (Mich.) athlete Nolan Meekhof. GopherDigest spoke with Meekhof to learn the latest on his recruiting.

"It went great," Meekhof said. "The weekend was an amazing experience. I felt a little rusty at linebacker due to the lack of experience, but by far it was my favorite school and coaching staff that I've worked with so far. I already miss the area there."

Meekhof had a full weekend in the Twin Cities.

"I had an unofficial visit on Friday, so I got to tour campus and facilities and also talk with coaches," Meekhof explained to GopherDigest.com. "We stayed at the Commons hotel, which was awesome. Then yesterday we camped and went to the BBQ, but honestly I loved everything about Minnesota. The visit on Friday was awesome as it felt very personal compared to any other schools I've been to. The coaches are down to earth people and personal. I thought the interest seemed genuine and it just felt like how while I was there."

Working at linebacker was a new experience for the Michigan athlete.

"It went well, but like I said I felt a little rusty with some things, but Sherels did an awesome job," Meekhof told GopherDigest. "I liked the way he coached and explained things. I also spoke with Coach Reeves and a little bit with Coach Kill at the BBQ. Nothing was said about an offer. Reeves mostly talked about how he needs to watch my camp film and talk with the coaches, but he said to give him a call early next week. The BBQ was great. The atmosphere of the BBQ was awesome as it had a laid back feel and just an at home feel, I don't know how to explain it. I just felt beyond blessed to be invited to it."

Meekhof is very interested in the Gophers after having a chance to see everything.

"Minnesota is my favorite out of all the colleges and football programs I've seen thus far. I didn't see one thing I didn't like while I was there and I'm being 100% honest about that when I say I loved the place. I'm going to wait awhile after my senior season and see if I can get any more offers and go from there."
