Florida Twins and Gopher defensive back commits Elisha Daniels and Elijah Daniels took an extended unofficial visit to the Twin Cities over the weekend and GopherDigest caught up with them to learn more.
"Friday when he landed, we went and visited most of the school and football complex and it was absolutely breath-taking," Elisha Daniels said to GopherDigest. "To find out that they're building on to what's already there is crazy. Then on Saturday, we visited the stadium and did a photoshoot, then went out with some of the players that night. Sunday, we went to the Mall of America and in the evening, I visited the dorms with Coach Glasscock. We're at the airport now, so it was a great visit."
Seeing the campus, stadium and spending time with the players was huge for the Daniels brothers.
"It was such a beautiful campus and it felt like I was home already," Elisha Daniels explained. "It was a mixture of a college town school and in the city type college and that's perfect for me and Elijah. I couldn't believe how clean the streets were and everyone was so nice. On Satuday, It was kind of frustrating because me being a competitor, I wanted to get out there and get some work in, but it was good seeing my brother perform in the camp. I love the way Coach Sawvel coaches and I love the stadium. I can definitely see myself in that maroon and gold. We went out Saturday night with Ray Buford and Dior Johnson and they showed us a good time. Those two will host us on our official visits for the Michigan game. The dorms are beautiful. They're apartments close to the complex and I love that as you don't find that in most colleges."
The Gopher coaches also played a huge role on the Daniels visit.
"I loved working with Coach Sawvel at camp," Elijah Daniels said. "He's a great guy personally and a great coach. He teaches at a pro level and I know he can get me to the highest level as possible. Coach Kill and I connected as soon as I met him. He's just a great man and a great coach. He's going to be one of the greatest coaches of all-time. He was basically telling us what the U of M had to offer and how much they want us and how much of an impact we can make on Gopher Football. My mom was also telling me and my brother that we made the right decision by committing. She never expected it to be so nice and they really showed us a great time, so she loved it. She wants to be a Gopher mom already."
The Daniels boys are already working on two other Florida recruits for the Gophers.
"I already have a Florida boy coming on an official visit with me and my brother, and that's wide receiver Dredrick Snelson," Elisha Daniels told GopherDigest. "Dee is my homeboy. Me and him are real close and I was just talking to him last night. We play on the same 7 on 7 team and we just been clicking ever since. We're similar people and I think he'll love it up here in the Twin Cities. We're also working on Miramar's Terrell Lucas to come here as we talked with him on our visit too."
All that being said, how solid to Minnesota are the Daniels twins now?
"Elisha and I are solid to Minnesota now," Elijah Daniels said. "We're 99.9999% solid. I can't wait for the Minnesota official visit as then it'll be 100%. I can't compare any place like it. It was something I never expected. I would have never thought the college and city would be this great, and how beautiful everything is. It's like a second home to me. After being here a couple days, they better give me a locker now at TCF Bank Stadium as I'm here to stay. I want Gopher fans to start buying season tickets for the next three to four years because the class of 2016 will be making a few changes around here."
