After an extended unofficial visit to Minnesota's campus over the weekend, Texas defensive back Antoine Winfield has one school standing out to him with a decision looming.
"I visited Minnesota today, Friday and Saturday," Winfield told GopherDigest. "On Friday, we toured the facilities, got to meet all of the coaches, plus Coach Kill and he offered me that day. He said that they wanted to offer because I'm a mature and good person, but also a great player and that I could make big things happen up here if I was to come. On Saturday, I toured the campus a little bit more before the BBQ and then went over to Carter Coughlin's house after and hung out with some of the guys. I got to talk with Eric Murray and Briean Boddy-Calhoun at the BBQ and they were real cool. Today, I went and saw the dorm rooms, met the Athletic Director and just hung out with Coach Sawvel and Glasscock for a little bit. The Minnesota AD was cool, really cool."
The Gopher coaches made sure to make it known that Winfield is a priority.
"Coach Sawvel said that he wants to coach me, that I'm a smart player and he loves the way that I play," Winfield explained. "Coach Glasscock pretty much said the same thing. It was fun to see all my old Eden Prairie friends like Carter and we had a good time. I actually stayed with one of my EP friends while I was up here. Carter was recruiting me a little bit as he was just telling me about the place and that he wants me to go there. I'd say my favorite part of the
visit was seeing the campus because it was really nice. I liked the feel of it and the atmosphere it was giving off."
The Texas defensive back has a leader following his visit to Minnesota.
"I'm liking Minnesota right now because I like the coaches, the players are cool and because of the atmosphere there," Winfield told GopherDigest. "They're probably number one for me right now. I feel like I can do big things up there and I like Coach Sawvel, plus the way they want to use me. I want to make a decision before the season, so that I can focus on my senior year."
