Rockford (Ill.) has been good to the Gophers over the last few years with Minnesota grabbing quarterback Demry Croft in 2015. Another guy to keep an eye on is Rockford Lutheran wide receiver Marcus Hayes and he spoke with GopherDigest.

"I've heard a lot from Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Illinois and Minnesota," Hayes said. "I camped at all of the those school. Illinois State basically offered me, but it's not official as they don't want to put a red flag over my head, so they said they're going to wait until someone else offers. If not then, they're going to most likely offer during the first few weeks of the year. I camped at Minnesota this past weekend and he thought I did really well, so we'll see what happens now."

Hayes was a standout at the Gophers recent junior elite camp.

"It was great there," Hayes told GopherDigest. "I had a great time and I felt like I did pretty good. I have to clean up some of my route running, but other than that it was good. I spoke with Coach Anderson, the WR coach there and he really thought I did well and that they will be looking at me heavily. He said that my routes are very good and also the little things about me like my ball control, size and my speed are all pluses for me. It was great working with him as he really taught me a lot and it's about little things that are going to help me get open. Little things like a lot of arm movement and action, and releasing to the DB's certain shoulder of how he's playing me, also the angles on my comeback route as well. I got to talk with Coach Kill and he said I did really well and he liked what he saw. He'll be watching me a lot going forward."

A Gopher offer would be a huge one for the Rockford receiver.

"It would mean the world as I love it there," Hayes said about Minnesota. "I feel like it's a great fit for me as it's close to home, a great program and I feel like it would be a good fit. I'm really working on my routes for this upcoming season after what Coach Anderson said. Also on going up and getting the ball more, plus I want to get faster."
