Martin an "extremely hard worker"
"He's an extremely hard worker and is very charismatic," Burnsville head coach Tyler Krebs said about new Gopher tight end commit Kamal Martin. "He has a bright future ahead of him. He's a leader by example, but he's also vocal when he needs to be. Most importantly, the entire team listens to him, believes in him and follows him."
Krebs and Martin's parents were very active in Kamal's recruiting.
"Kamal, his parents and I communicated throughout the entire process. The Gopher coaches were very active with Kamal," Krebs explained to GopherDigest. "Coach Sherels and Coach Zebrowski visited the school several times during the spring. They watched him workout in the weight room and at track practice. They made sure he attended their camp this summer so they could evaluate him in person, and Kamal obviously had a very good performance for them there. His desire to win is unique. He's very competitive and he raises the intensity of others around him. He's very driven. He works hard in the classroom, in the weight room and on the football field. He had a goal to be a D1 player and he worked very hard to get there.
Krebs has very high expectations for one of his senior leaders.
"He's one of our captains and one of our best players, so we expect great things from him," Krebs told GopherDigest. "We expect him to be a leader, limit his mistakes and make big plays for us. He will have a huge role in any success we have this season. We're really excited to watch him play. He's quick, very long and has great hands. He has a huge frame and will add weight easily over the next few years. He's very physical and he loves playing football."
Martin has the versatility to be Burnsville's best player at a multitude of positions.
"He's our best quarterback, receiver, defensive back and linebacker. We plan to play him all over the field this year and the Gopher staff will do a great job finding the best position for him there. I think he would be a great TE if they play him there. He just wants to play football at the U of M and he's very excited to join their program."
