Florida OLB Andre Polk commits to Minnesota

Minnesota picked up their 17th commitment of their 2016 class Wednesday night when Florida outside linebacker Andre Polk decided to become a Gopher.

"I just knew that Minnesota was the place for me after getting home from my visit this past weekend," New Gophers OLB commit Andre Polk said. "I loved my visit to the Twin Cities a couple weekends ago and it just felt like home, so I had to pull the trigger."

Polk's first phone call was to his position coach.

"I called Coach Sherels tonight to commit and he was excited," Polk explained to GopherDigest. "He didn't know it was coming, so he thought it was a real nice surprise. I tried to connect with Coach Kill, but he didn't answer, so I'll talk with him tomorrow. I wanted to take a visit to compare to Minnesota's and I did last weekend to Iowa State, and after thinking it through, Minnesota is the place for me."

The Florida linebacker is excited to get to the Twin Cities this January.

"I'll be graduating early and heading up to Minnesota in January," Polk told GopherDigest. "My mom is still trying to get used to me being so far from home, but it's all good. I'm not going to take an official to Louisville, but I probably will take a visit to USF still. I just want Gopher fans to know I'm ready to get up there."
