New Gophers Basketball content producer

Who I am and what you can expect to read

Hey there Gopher Basketball fans.  This is your new content producer, Will McDonald.

Some background on me:

Hometown: Stillwater, MN.... Yes, the Ponies.

College:  UMD.  Go Dogs.

Favorite color:  Maroon or gold.

Favorite food:  Pasta

Age: 24

Favorite Gopher Basketball player:  Can't pick one, but Dre Hollins, Mbakwe, Rodney Williams, Al Nolen and Hoffarber would be a start.  Honorable mentions: Abu Shamala, Westbrook, Flip,  Trent Tucker and Damian Johnson

Favorite sports columnist: Amelia Rayno

Most memorable win:  1/15/2009.  When Lawrence Westbrook lit up the Badgers in the Kohl Center.  78-74 OT.

Favorite basketball movies: Glory Road, White Men Can't Jump, Basketball Diaries

Philosophical question for the day:  Are boxing movies considered sports movies?  If so, is Fight Club (or any wrestling movie) considered a sports movie?

More in-depth about me:

I never really caught the Minnesota hockey bug.  The Gophers Basketball team has always had my viewership since I was a kid.  I believe they are on their way back towards the big stage, but this year may very well be a roller coaster.  At times, I can be hyperbolic and you won't know if I am joking.  I have a strong distaste for Badger fans, although many of which I would consider friends.

I like podcasts.  I have a few contacts up my sleeve, so stay with me and you will get some cool podcasts for the car ride to/from work.

I am not a "stat-geek", and I like to see the good in my Gophers.  So, when Carlos Morris shoots 8 for 24 from the field this season with too many turnovers, I may highlight some of the ridiculous shots he made instead of addressing the shots he may not need to take.  Forcing 25-footers with 15 seconds on the shot clock is bad, mkay.

These podcasts may contain some popular culture references or ramblings, but I will do my best to edit them down to being mainly Gopher Bball talk.  My content will be about what fellow fans want, so if certain bits aren't working let me know.

I want to thank Ryan and the rest of the team for giving me this opportunity.  This is a platform that I have always hoped to have.  And to the Gophers fans that are as loyal as myself, I very much look forward to our conversations throughout the course of the season.  You can reach me on Twitter @GophsBBall or email at

Thanks for tuning in, stay classy.
