JUCO DT Jackson has the Gophers in front

After taking an official visit this past weekend, Minnesota is now in front for Iowa Western C.C. defensive tackle Merrick Jackson.

"It was great. I had a nice time in Minnesota," Iowa Western C.C. DT Merrick Jackson said to GopherDigest Sunday night. "My favorite part of the visit was seeing some familiar faces that I've played with in the past like Cody Poock and Ace Rogers. They just told me how much they like it there and how they need a defensive tackle like me."

Jackson also spend a lot of time with the Gopher coaches.

"I was with Coach Glasscock a lot, but I got to talk with Coach Phelps and Coach Claeys a lot too," Jackson explained to GopherDigest. "DL coach Jeff Phelps is a great dude. We just talked about football and playing defensive line. We didn't talk a lot about how he would use me, but more about what they do as a defensive line. They just want guys to create havoc in backfields and that's the most fun way to play defensive tackle."

The Gophers are now sitting well after the visit.

"Minnesota is probably my number one school right now," Jackson told GopherDigest. "It's a place I can see myself being successful at on and off the field with some familiar faces. The team really feels like a family there. I'm not sure when I'm going to make a decision just yet, but I want Gopher fans to know I thought it was really cool that no matter how cold it is, they still show up and support. My only other scheduled official visit is to Southern Miss on the 12th of December."
