JUCO OL Garrison Wright is ready to contribute at Minnesota

Butler community college offensive lineman and new Gopher signee Garrison Wright is the latest Gopher to sign in the 2016 class and he went in-depth with GopherDigest.com to share more about his reasons to sign with Minnesota.

GopherDigest.com: What is your current height and weight? What weight would the Minnesota staff like you to report at in the summer?

GW: I'm 6'5" 315 lbs. They never told me any weight they want me at.

GopherDigest.com: What are your individual and team goals you hope to accomplish during your college career?

GW: As an individual, I want to help the team in every way possible and be whatever the coaches need me to be. As a team, I think that they were very close to being really good. Building on that and getting over that hump will be our goal..

GopherDigest.com: What are you looking to work on the most this spring to prepare yourself for Big Ten football?

GW: Technique and adjusting to playing beside a new group of guys.

GopherDigest.com: What future moment are you looking forward to the most as a Golden Gopher?

GW: Putting on that uniform for week one is going to be a special moment for me.

GopherDigest.com: What was the main reason you chose to attend the University of Minnesota?

GW: The coaching staff and players. They're a great group of guys.

GopherDigest.com: What team do you want to beat the most as a Gopher and why?

GW: For me, that game at Nebraska is going to be exciting. It's close to home and there will be a lot of family and friends there.

GopherDigest.com: Is there any unfinished academic business or are you all set to enroll at Minnesota?

GW: I'm all set.

GopherDigest.com: If you don't make it to the NFL, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

GW: Owning a restaurant or small business as I've always wanted to run a restaurant for some reason. That or I could be a Sports agent.

GopherDigest.com: What is it about Coach Claeys and the coaching staff that makes you want to play for them?

GW: They care a lot of their players and it shows.

GopherDigest.com: What is something you learned about the University of Minnesota that surprised you during the recruiting process?

GW: I was surprised how nice everything was as I've never seen a campus that looks like that. It looks like the city and I thought downtown in a city on campus.

GopherDigest.com: What position do you expect to play at Minnesota? What other position did the Gopher staff mention as a possibility?

GW: We talked about either guard position. And I could play a little tackle if it's needed.

GopherDigest.com: What have the coaches told you regarding how they plan to utilize your strengths as a player?

GW: A lot of the schemes that they run are ones that I've ran before, so I'm already somewhat familiar with some of the things that the offense does.

GopherDigest.com: Have you had any communication with other Minnesota recruits and if so what?

GW: I've talked to some of the other commits as I got to meet quite a few on my official visit. Everyone is excited to get things going.

GopherDigest.com: What player do you model your game after and why?

GW: Honestly, I haven't had much time to model my game after anyone. I've been so focused on learning the position that I haven't really watched many guys.
