January 22nd official visit primer

With only 12 days left until National Signing Day, Minnesota is hosting a few very important official visitors. Here's what you need to know.

JUCO running back Kobe McCrary

Details: Minnesota needs an experienced big back with the graduation of senior Rodrick Williams and McCrary is the front runner to fill that void. Minnesota offered McCrary a few weeks back and with the junior college running back is already on campus as we speak. Minnesota needs an experienced backup running back with to be sophomore Shannon Brooks and Rodney Smith both going through some injuries this past season, and I'd be surprised if Kobe doesn't join his teammate in OL Garrison Wright as a Gopher.

In his words: "I can't wait to see what Minneapolis is like in person and can't wait to see the campus."

Safety Tyrez Lindsey

Details: Minnesota has three corners currently committed and is in need of a safety for their 2016 class and Lindsey is at the top of the wish list. While currently committed to Memphis right now, Lindsey has both of his parents visiting with him on the visit and the Gophers staff hopes they can get the Alabama safety to flip to Minnesota. Lindsey is a big safety at 6'2" 205 lbs and reminds GopherDigest of a young Damarius Travis, which we believe is a good comp for Lindsey down the line. If the Gophers can land Lindsey, I think they'd be done for the 2016 DB class.

Other visitors

Minnesota will also have three other recruits on official visits this weekend and GopherDigest has been asked to keep their names silent until further notice. More will be reported when I can share more.
