"I decided to commit to Minnesota last night," Alabama quarterback DeMarcus Williams told GopherDigest late Tuesday night. "I called offensive coordinator Jay Johnson and he was fired up and couldn't wait to get me up there again this summer. I decided on Minnesota because I like the city, campus and the fact that it's big-time ball at Minnesota. When I was on my visit there last weekend, I met good people and I had a lot of fun. There's a lot of great restaurants there too."
Williams believes he'll fit right into new offensive coordinator Jay Johnson's system at Minnesota.
"Coach Johnson thinks that I fit perfectly for their new offense there," Williams explained to GopherDigest. "He needs a quarterback that can run and throw and he thinks I'm that perfect guy for him. My family loves my decision of Minnesota. Wherever I choose to go, which is Minnesota, they were 100% behind me. I think my biggest strength as a quarterback would be my throwing ability because I can throw the deep ball no problem, plus I can also keep it short with a quick release."
Now that his decision is out of the way, the Jackson quarterback can focus on enjoying signing day tomorrow.
"I'm going to have a ceremony at the school around 10:00 AM tomorrow and then I'm just going to enjoy the day. I want Gopher fans to know that I just love their pride. Their commitment to the program is part of the reason I choose this University. Go Gophers!"
