Gophers OL signee Sam Schlueter wants to become the best player he can be

Mayer (Minn.) Lutheran offensive lineman and new Gopher signee Sam Schlueter is the latest Gopher to sign in the 2016 class and he went in-depth with to share more about his reasons to sign with Minnesota. What is your current height and weight? What weight would the Minnesota staff like you to report at this summer?

SS: I am currently 6'6 and 285 pounds. They haven't told me what they want me at, just get as big as I can. What are your individual and team goals you hope to accomplish during your college career?

SS: I am hoping to become the best team in the country, and be the best player I can possibly be. What are you looking to work on the most this spring to prepare yourself for Big Ten football?

SS: I am looking to work on getting bigger, stronger, and more explosive. What future moment are you looking forward to the most as a Golden Gopher?

SS: I am looking forward to playing football in the Big Ten, and playing for great coaches and teammates. What was the main reason you chose to attend the University of Minnesota?

SS: I chose Minnesota because it was by far my best option, and it felt like home to me. I had the feeling that I wanted to go there, and it's just hard to explain but it just felt right. What team do you want to beat the most as a Gopher and why?

SS: I want to beat Wisconsin and Iowa. They're the biggest rivals. Is there any unfinished academic business or are you all set to enroll at Minnesota?

SS: I just have a few academic things to send in such as my final transcripts but I am all set. If you don't make it to the NFL, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

SS: I don't know where I'll be yet. Obviously, the NFL is a dream of mine, but if that doesn't work out I want to be successful in anything I do. What is it about Coach Claeys and the coaching staff that makes you want to play for them?

SS: They're a very positive and hard working group that I believe can make us win games and can help me reach my true potential. What is something you learned about the University of Minnesota that surprised you during the recruiting process?

SS: I had no surprises to me. I always knew it was a great program, and I knew that it was the best option for me, no question about it. What position do you expect to play at Minnesota? What other position did the Gopher staff mention as a possibility?

SS: Coach Miller said he sees me playing tackle. What have the coaches told you regarding how they plan to utilize your strengths as a player?

SS: They plan to use my athleticism and aggressiveness to help me reach my full potential to become a tackle. Have you had any communication with other Minnesota recruits and if so what?

SS: I have been friends with all the recruits for a while now. All of the commits are a pretty close group of guys. What player do you model your game after and why?

SS: I don't really have a player I model my game after. All players have their own style of play, and I just want to be the best player I can be.
