Minnesota TE signee Ko Kieft wants a chance to get back at the in-state Iowa Hawkeyes

Sioux Center (Iowa) tight end and new Gopher signee Ko Kieft is the latest Gopher to sign in the 2016 class and he went in-depth with GopherDigest.com to share more about his reasons to sign with Minnesota.

GopherDigest.com: What is your current height and weight? What weight would the Minnesota staff like you to report at this summer?

KK: 6'4" 220 lbs (because of wrestling). Coach Reeves said he just wants me to be able to move and run well, he doesn't care about my weight he says that they will put the weight on me when I get there. But I would like to be weighing at least 240 or 235. 

GopherDigest.com: What are your individual and team goals you hope to accomplish during your college career?

KK:  Individual goal is to earn a starting spot and grind my way into the NFL. Team goals would be a Big Ten championship and a college football playoff birth. 

GopherDigest.com: What are you looking to work on the most this spring to prepare yourself for Big Ten football?

KK: I'm looking forward to the summer workouts and fall camp, because all the hard work makes it that much more special when you run out of the tunnel at TCF Bank Stadium.

GopherDigest.com: What future moment are you looking forward to the most as a Golden Gopher?

KK: Definitely running out of that tunnel with all my brothers and seeing the best fans in the nation screaming at us!

GopherDigest.com: What was the main reason you chose to attend the University of Minnesota?

KK: It was a shot to play Big Ten football, the coaches are great guys, and the undergrad programs are excellent. 

GopherDigest.com: What team do you want to beat the most as a Gopher and why?

KK: Iowa. It would mean the world to me to beat Iowa every year while I'm at Minnesota.

GopherDigest.com: Is there any unfinished academic business or are you all set to enroll at Minnesota?

KK: No, I am all set to enroll at the U of M.

GopherDigest.com: If you don't make it to the NFL, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

KK: I see myself being physical therapist and coaching football.

GopherDigest.com: What is it about Coach Claeys and the coaching staff that makes you want to play for them?

KK: They have continuity and they are all down to earth guys that you could have a regular conversation with. Just good guys.

GopherDigest.com: What is something you learned about the University of Minnesota that surprised you during the recruiting process?

KK: I didn't realize the U of M had this great of undergrad programs. The education is bar none.

GopherDigest.com: What position do you expect to play at Minnesota? What other position did the Gopher staff mention as a possibility?

KK: I expect to play Y TE and DL might be a possibility if that doesn't pan out.

GopherDigest.com: What have the coaches told you regarding how they plan to utilize your strengths as a player?

KK: I am going to be a physical blocker, who can also make teams play on those play action passes.

GopherDigest.com: Have you had any communication with other Minnesota recruits and if so what?

KK: Everyday! We have a very strong bond already as we have been communicating in the group chat almost everyday!

GopherDigest.com: What player do you model your game after and why?

KK: I dont think I try to model my game after a player. I just want to do what the coaches want me to do.
