Gophers CB signee Antoine Winfield Jr. wants his shot at Ohio State

The Woodlands (Texas) cornerback and new Gopher signee Antoine Winfield Jr. is the latest Gopher to sign in the 2016 class and he went in-depth with to share more about his reasons to sign with Minnesota. What is your current height and weight? What weight would the Minnesota staff like you to report at this summer?

AW: 5'10" and 198 lbs. I don't have a certain weight they want me to be at. What are your individual and team goals you hope to accomplish during your college career?

AW: Individual goals would be that I want to win the Thrope Award, and as a team, I want to win the Big Ten Championship. What are you looking to work on the most this spring to prepare yourself for Big Ten football?

AW: Working on my coverage skills and also getting bigger, stronger and faster. I have to work on getting used to the speed of the game in the Big Ten. What future moment are you looking forward to the most as a Golden Gopher?

AW: I'm looking forward to winning a national championship. What was the main reason you chose to attend the University of Minnesota?

AW: I just felt like I could be successful at Minnesota. What team do you want to beat the most as a Gopher and why?

AW: Ohio State because my dad went there. Is there any unfinished academic business or are you all set to enroll at Minnesota?

AW: All set to enroll. If you don't make it to the NFL, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

AW: Somewhere on the beach relaxing. What is it about Coach Claeys and the coaching staff that makes you want to play for them?

AW: They're all great guys and I feel like they can make me a better player. What is something you learned about the University of Minnesota that surprised you during the recruiting process?

AW: Nothing really surprised me. I just liked the program and everything when I visited. What position do you expect to play at Minnesota? What other position did the Gopher staff mention as a possibility?

AW: Corner, nickel or safety. I don't care which that I play. What have the coaches told you regarding how they plan to utilize your strengths as a player?

AW: They said they plan of using me early on at nickel because they want me in the box to cover. Have you had any communication with other Minnesota recruits and if so what?

AW: Yeah we have a group message that we're all in together and chat. What player do you model your game after and why?

AW: I model my game game after Earl Thomas and Tyann Mathieu because they're my two favorite safeties and I like their playing styles.
