Gophers quarterback signee Mark Williams models his game after NFL MVP Cam Newton

Jackson (Ala.) quarterback and new Gopher signee Mark Williams is the latest Gopher to sign in the 2016 class and he went in-depth with to share more about his reasons to sign with Minnesota. What is your current height and weight? What weight would the Minnesota staff like you to report at this summer?

MW: 6'1.5", 182 lbs. I need to get up to 195-200 lbs by the summer. What are your individual and team goals you hope to accomplish during your college career?

MW: Individual goal is to win the starting position and the team goal is to lead my team to a championship. What are you looking to work on the most this spring to prepare yourself for Big Ten football?

MW: Getting my weight up so I'll be able to take more hits and not be so fragile. What future moment are you looking forward to the most as a Golden Gopher?

MW: Standing in front of thousands of people playing the game I love. What was the main reason you chose to attend the University of Minnesota?

MW: It's was a division one football school in a big-time conference. What team do you want to beat the most as a Gopher and why?

MW: Ohio State. It'll be a big game and I will experience better things. Is there any unfinished academic business or are you all set to enroll at Minnesota?

MW: All set. If you don't make it to the NFL, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

MW: Somewhere in the workforce. What is it about Coach Claeys and the coaching staff that makes you want to play for them?

MW: Coach Claeys' personality is much like mine where we don't talk very much, but get the job done. What is something you learned about the University of Minnesota that surprised you during the recruiting process?

MW: INSERT What position do you expect to play at Minnesota? What other position did the Gopher staff mention as a possibility?

MW: Quarterback only. What have the coaches told you regarding how they plan to utilize your strengths as a player?

MW: We really haven't talked about the yet. It's been more about taking care of me and making me a better person. Have you had any communication with other Minnesota recruits and if so what?

MW: None. What player do you model your game after and why?

MW: Cam Newton. He will be a legend one day and he's a great player. He's always giving the balls to kids after every touchdown and that's awesome to me.
