Gophers DE signee TaMarion Johnson wants a shot at the in-state Michigan State Spartans

Southfield (Mich.) defensive end and new Gopher signee TaMarion Johnson is the latest Gopher to sign in the 2016 class and he went in-depth with GopherDigest.com to share more about his reasons to sign with Minnesota.

GopherDigest.com: What is your current height and weight? What weight would the Minnesota staff like you to report at this summer?

TJ: 6'5" and 205 lbs. I need to get up to 215-220 lbs by the summer.  

GopherDigest.com: What are your individual and team goals you hope to accomplish during your college career?

TJ: I want to be an All-American and lead college football in sacks. As a team, I want to win the Big Ten championship at least twice. 

GopherDigest.com: What are you looking to work on the most this spring to prepare yourself for Big Ten football?

TJ: Getting stronger and faster and work on using my hands more. 

GopherDigest.com: What future moment are you looking forward to the most as a Golden Gopher?

TJ: Winning games. 

GopherDigest.com: What was the main reason you chose to attend the University of Minnesota?

TJ: I felt like it was my best option and I fit everything there. 

GopherDigest.com: What team do you want to beat the most as a Gopher and why?

TJ: Michigan State because they over-looked me. 

GopherDigest.com: Is there any unfinished academic business or are you all set to enroll at Minnesota?

TJ: All set.

GopherDigest.com: If you don't make it to the NFL, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

TJ: Coaching college football. 

GopherDigest.com: What is it about Coach Claeys and the coaching staff that makes you want to play for them?

TJ: I like their defensive system and I think I can succeed in it. I also like the family feel they give off. 

GopherDigest.com: What is something you learned about the University of Minnesota that surprised you during the recruiting process?

TJ: How nice the city and campus are. 

GopherDigest.com: What position do you expect to play at Minnesota? What other position did the Gopher staff mention as a possibility?

TJ: Defensive end and maybe outside linebacker. It all depends on how I gain weight. 

GopherDigest.com: What have the coaches told you regarding how they plan to utilize your strengths as a player?

TJ: They want to use me to rush the passer. 

GopherDigest.com: Have you had any communication with other Minnesota recruits and if so what?

TJ: I'm in a group chat with the other commits. 

GopherDigest.com: What player do you model your game after and why?

TJ: Jadeveon Clowney because he uses his speed and length the way I want to.
