"It was a great visit and a great day in general," Benilde-St. Margaret offensive lineman Eric Wilson said about his Minnesota visit yesterday. "I got to visit with coach Glasscock for a while before sitting in on the offensive line meeting. Then I went to practice and got to watch and talk to Conner Olson and Sam Schlueter, who were also there. After practice coach Glasscock brought me and my family to coach Claeys' office where we met with coach Claeys and coach Miller. We talked with coach Claeys for a while and then he offered me a scholarship."
Wilson enjoyed talking with the Minnesota players and coaches.
"Sam and Conner were just really friendly and talking with me about their recruiting processes and why they chose the Gophers," Wilson explained to GopherDigest. "They gave really good reasons about playing for your hometown team and giving back to Minnesota. It was great to hear from older kids who went through the process. It also was nice seeing how intense the practice and meeting were. It was great to see. The mindset is definitely changing about being more of a smash mouth team."
After heading into the head coaches office, Wilson came away with a Gopher offer.
"Claeys and Miller just asked me a little about my goals and who I was, told me about how Minnesota was changing, and then offered me. They're really changing the attitude about being a smash mouth team up front. Claeys told me they wanted to offer because they saw a kid who could succeed at the University of Minnesota and play a role on the team. I have to take some time to soak it all in and it's surreal to get a Minnesota offer. It's my hometown team. I've grown up watching them play and dreaming of playing at a level like the Big 10. My parents really couldn't believe how far my football has taken me It was a great day for all of us."
Wilson has a couple of visits scheduled this month to some other Big Ten schools.
"I'm visiting Michigan on March 22nd, Michigan State on March 23rd and then an Ivy League swing over spring break. I'm definitely looking to make my decision before my senior season, but I'm not sure about specifically though. I really like Minnesota, but I just have to weigh all of my options as equals right now."
