"After playing two years of junior college football, I wanted to take a chance to play division one," Rochester (Minn.) Community and Technical college offensive lineman Ryan Just said to GopherDigest. "I had interest from Purdue, Washington State, Maine and I had a full ride offer from Stephen F. Austin, and division two schools from all over as well. Purdue offered me a PWO, but I love the University of Minnesota and grew up a Gopher fan as well, so it was a pretty easy decision."
Just has been hearing from the Gophers for a couple of months now.
"I've been talking with Minnesota for probably like two months," Just explained to GopherDigest. "I'd be talking with coach Schaekel and Miller and Shakes had been telling me that it's a really good situation for me as I'll have a chance to come in and compete this fall. Miller said he likes some things I do on film, and I'll have the chance to compete. Miller told me they're looking at me as a guard or center and I think that's perfect as I moved to guard at RCTC and it felt great."
The Rochester offensive lineman made the call yesterday afternoon.
"I called coach Miller first, then coach Schaekel to commit," Just said. "Miller was excited to hear I was coming and said we'll stay in contact here soon. Shakes said pretty much the same and to let him know if I need help setting anything up here in the coming weeks. My parents were really happy I found somewhere I liked and that I'll get a good education. The biggest reason I chose Minnesota was it was just a great fit for me as a total student-athlete. I'll be finishing my degree in Sports Management."
Just has a message for Gopher fans.
"I'm excited to put the pads on and get to work."
