"I was able to visit Minnesota yesterday from 11 AM to 3 PM," Iowa City (Iowa) West wide receiver Devontae Lane said to GopherDigest. "I got a chance to walk around and see the campus and try on uniforms and it was just a great experience overall. I really love Minnesota."
Lane spoke extensively with the Gophers coaches, specifically the recruiting coordinator.
"I talked to coach Glasscock a lot and he's the one who took me on my visit," Lane explained. "I also spoke with head coach Tracy Claeys some. Glasscock told me that once I get my ACT scores back and figure everything out education wise, that I'll have an offer to play football at Minnesota. I was just excited and surprised to hear that. I'm happy and thankful for them believing in me and giving me such a great potential opportunity. It sounded to me like they loved what they saw on film and the things they've heard about me. Once everything is in order like I said before with my schooling, then I will be offered. Claeys said the same stuff as Glasscock basically. Sounded like they've already talked about it to other another about it and he was just making sure that me and my family were on the same page as the Minnesota coaches."
Lane wasn't alone on his Minnesota visit.
"My grandpa and brother were with me on the visit," Lane told GopherDigest. "Ace (Rogers) has been around me since I can remember, so it was nice to have him around on the visit. I thought the campus was great. It's huge and has a lot of bike lanes. My grandpa liked being there and we all were on the same page about that. He thought it would be a great place to potentially attend."
Minnesota is now in a good place for the Iowa City wide receiver following the visit.
"A potential Minnesota offer would mean a lot," Lane said to GopherDigest. "It's a great Big Ten school and they play in one of the biggest and best conferences in college football. I would love to have Minnesota be the first football offer. I've also been hearing from Northern Iowa, Iowa State and Western Michigan. Western Michigan is flying in Monday to watch me run routes, Northern Iowa sends me letters and hopes to get me on campus soon and Iowa State was at my school on Monday, but I wasn't there since I was visiting Minnesota. I took the ACT just recently, so once I get my scores back we'll see what the Gophers say."
