"Coach Mike Sherels is the Minnesota coach that offered me," Naples (Fla.) Golden Gate safety Claudin Cherelus said to GopherDigest. "He told me he liked my size a lot and he loved my playing style. He watched us practice yesterday and he loved the way I'm aggressive and not afraid to hit someone. He said he's a man of chances and he sees a lot of potential in me, and so he wanted to offer me a scholarship to Minnesota. He liked my leadership too on how I'm helping the younger guys when I can and always being positive and coaching people up. The offer from the Gophers is at strong safety."
Cherelus getting his first offer from Minnesota, means a big relief for he and his family.
"I think this is great and I'm extremely blessed because of the small number of people that get this chance," Cherelus explained to GopherDigest. "I also like coach Sherels and what he's told me so far. I can't really say what this offer all means as I'm still just taking in the feeling, but I'm just really excited. It does mean a lot though that a Big Ten school offered me as I know they play in a great conference and they can play well there. I know they work hard too. I just know that Minnesota is big on grades and academics as well, and that's real good to me."
The Florida safety and his mother are extremely grateful of the offer and the moment yesterday.
"My mother is extremely proud and just told me to keep going and there's more to come now," Cherelus told GopherDigest. "Right, I can't really say much about my true interest as it's all still too new to me, but I'd say it's above average from what Sherels told me. I'd have to talk more with my mother and coach about visiting, but I don't have any plans right now. Just to have an offer from college feels great as I've been so stressed about it lately as I've been waiting. I'm just so happy right now, especially coming from a school like Minnesota."
