"Head coach Tracy Claeys is the Minnesota coach that offered me," Nacogdoches (Texas) cornerback Josh Thompson said to GopherDigest. "Coach Claeys was just saying that he watched my film and he likes the way I play, and he thinks I'd be a great fit for their program. He said that they put out a lot of defensive backs to the NFL and I wouldn't have to worry about distance because I would love it up there. He also brought up my combine results from the Nike Opening combine and how that definitely contributed to the offer. He wanted to offer me as a corner as he said I'm a big-time player and that I make big plays on the field and I'll be a great fit for the Gophers defense. He also mentioned how coach Poore will be by this week to see me."
Getting his first Big Ten offer from Minnesota is a definite highlight for Thompson.
"It just seems unreal," Thompson told GopherDigest about his new Big Ten offer. It's a big offer and of course you know I want to get a visit in to Minnesota now. I'm just glad that the coaches loved my film and extended an offer. I had spoken previously with coach Sawvel and Poore, and Sawvel had been telling me not to worry and that he knows that the offer is coming and that he would love the chance to coach me. I don't know a whole lot about Minnesota right now, but I'm getting to more and more each day. Hopefully I'll be visiting Minnesota this summer."
Minnesota is now at the top of the list for the Texas corner following the offer.
"Minnesota is at the top for me now," Thompson explained to GopherDigest. "Realizing that it's my first big offer and they are the first big-time school to believe in me to play at a big level. They know my talent and I won't forget that. Hopefully I'll get to LSU and Minnesota this summer for visits, and I also plan on camping at TCU as well. I'll probably make a decision later on in the year as I want to visit as many school as I can to make an informed decision."
