"Minnesota coach Brian Anderson is the Gopher coach that gave me my first scholarship," Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett running back Josh Samuel said to GopherDigest. "He came by my school on Monday and then I called him afterwards, and he said he likes what I bring to the table and that I'm definitely a Big 10 back. He likes the way I run the ball and he ended by saying that I have been offered by University of Minnesota."
The weight of the world is finally offer of Samuel's shoulder now that he has his first offer.
"I felt so shocked, but I feel relived now by just knowing I have accomplished my dream by getting my first offer," Samuel explained. "My mom and I are very happy. What I know about Minnesota is that they're a successful program to be at. I know David Cobb was a great running back there as a Gopher because I watched film on him. I'm still doing my research, but I know that this a great school to be offered by. My interest in Minnesota is wanting to know the program a little more about mainly their education programs and to get a feel for the environment there."
Samuel will be hitting the road this summer at numerous other college camps.
"I've also been hearing from App State and Western Kentucky and they really want me to come up and camp there. Schools I know I'll be camping at this summer are Florida, Auburn, Louisville, Georgia and a few more, but I haven't quite gotten them all figured out yet. I'd say my best quality as a running back is my vision on the field and my capability to run downhill. I like to wear things out and by meeting linebackers time after time. That's when you know who hits the weight room more. With my vision on the field, I feel like that's just a natural ability for me, but I improve on it each time I'm on out there on the field and when I watch myself on film. I have no idea when I'm going to make a decision yet as I'm going to let the recruiting process play out."
