"Coach Sawvel is the Minnesota coach that offered me," Coconut Creek (Fla.) sophomore corner Marquis Williams said to GopherDigest. "Well as you may know ,my uncle by the name of Tyrone Carter, 2-time super bowl winner for the Pittsburgh Steelers graduated from the U of Minnesota. Minnesota just came to see if I had the same blood in me when we went up against Piper high school on our spring game. I did well and they talked with my head coach after and told him they want to offer Williams, which is me. That offer was really BIG! I feel I'll go there and put up numbers, plus win the Jim Thorpe award like my uncle. Maybe the Heisman too, but I'm still young and I have no favorites at the time. I'm just enjoying the process."
Williams will also be training with his uncle in Minnesota this summer.
"Tyrone has said it's an great school," Williams explained to Scout. "The coaching staff shows love also, plus they produce cornerbacks to the NFL. I'm moving up there on June 30th, but I'll be up there for two weeks training. Also getting my game skills on another level. When I'm up there this summer, I will be on campus visiting Minnesota when I can. My interest is high in the Gophers because I love the school and what they represent."
The 2018 standout defensive back also has more visits and camps coming up here soon.
"I'm going to Tennessee, Clemson, Wisconsin and Central Florida. I'll be in Tennessee and Clemson on June 11th, UCF on June 12, and I'm still finding a date that works for Wisconsin. Minnesota will be in it until the end hands down. I'm going to wait out my decision though. If it's meant for me to make a decision early, then I will, but I'm just going through the process right now."
