"I'll be flying up to Minnesota on Friday with my dad," Mississippi JUCO safety Jaquarius Landrews said to GopherIllustrated. "What I'm looking forward to most about this upcoming week is enjoying myself at Minensota as I've never been that far north before, and seeing something better than Mississippi."
Landrews thinks that there's greener pastures outside of his home state.
"What has me so interested in Minnesota is it's somewhere better than home here in Mississippi, and I can really go off to school there and focus on my academics, athletics and myself," Landrews explained to Scout.com. "I want to do my thing in the classroom and on the field because I'm thinking about my future after college. I want to get away from Mississippi because there are always so many athletes that get slept on down here and I want to see another part of life outside of the state."
The junior college safety has asked the Gopher coaches a lot about the opportunities that Minnesota could present.
"Coach Sawvel has been telling me that even if I don't make it to the NFL, the University of Minnesota can still be a good place to live and their businesses up there in the Twin Cities is big. I'm looking to major in something like Petroleum Engineering, as for those who don't know, is a field of engineering concerned with the activities related to the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas. There's a big demand for that, and it's something I want to pursue. A Minnesota offer this weekend would mean a whole lot to me as it'd mean I can play in the Big 10. My pops said it's my decision for where I want to go to college, and he will support me every step of the way, so Minnesota wouldn't bother him. I can't commit to Minnesota on the spot as I'm still currently committed to Mississippi State, but I want a final decision by November. I want to be prepared to go to whichever school by then, and I want my recruitment done and over with."
