Week 8 Big Ten West Power Ratings

If Wisconsin can overcome their overtime loss at home to Ohio State and knock off Iowa in Iowa City this weekend they may be the favorite to run the table and win the West.

Big Ten West Power Ratings:  Week 8

No. 1 Wisconsin

DTCR:  50% (+5%)

Week 8: The Badgers currently sit at 1-2 in conference play but with continued strong play and a little help, Wisconsin could end up in Indianapolis.  For Wisconsin it all starts again this weekend in Iowa City.  A road victory over the Hawkeyes followed up by a home victory over Nebraska and the Badgers will be favored to run the table to rep the West.

No. 2 Nebraska

DTCR:  40% (-5%)

Week 8:  The Huskers played well enough on Saturday to escape Bloomington and the upset-minded Hoosiers 27-22.  This week the Huskers can coast with Purdue in town, but then it is all business as Nebraska travels to Wisconsin for the game of the year in the West.  If Nebraska can remain unbeaten coming out of Madison they can cruise to the West title.

No. 3 Iowa

DTCR:  10% (No Change)

Week 8:  The Hawkeyes do still have a chance to win the West but I just don't foresee it happening.  We will know if they are still a threat this weekend with Wisconsin in town.  Even with a win over the Badgers the Hawkeyes will still need to either beat Michigan or get some help for their season finale against Nebraska to have meaning.

No. 4 Northwestern

DTCR:  0% (No Change)

Week 8:  It appears as if Northwestern has already forgotten about their slow start and ready to reappear as a serious contender for a solid bowl big come early December.  The Cats are 2-1 in Big Ten action but won't be given much of a chance to win the division unless they can go 2-1 over the next three weekends (v. Indiana, at Ohio State, v. Wisconsin) and then win their final three to finish 7-2.  Pull that off and their early season loss to Nebraska will haunt them in a tiebreaker.

No. 5 Minnesota

DTCR:  0% (-11%)

Week 8:  The Gophers had a must win Saturday in College Park and they came thru with a dominating victory over Maryland.  The Gophers will have no problems turning their 1-game winning streak into a 4-game winning streak with victories over Rutgers, Illinois and Purdue on the horizon.  After that Minnesota will need to finish strong with a victories at Nebraska, home to Northwestern and at Wisconsin to finish 7-2 and have a chance.

No. 6 Illinois

DTCR:  0% (No Change)

Week 8:  The Illini regained a little street cred when they traveled to Rutgers and knocked off the Scarlet Knights one week after losing to Purdue at home. Illinois will return to the loss column this weekend in Ann Arbor and most likely for the rest of the year.

No. 7 Purdue

DTCR:  0% (No Change)

Week 8: Despite beating Illinois on the road two weeks ago and keeping it close against Iowa at home last weekend the administration finally made a move on Darrell Hazell.  The move gives AD Mike Bobinski a head start on the rest of the low level Power 5 schools that will potentially have an opening this year.  My guess is Purdue goes all in for P.J. Fleck, but will it be enough to lure him away from Western Michigan?
