Richard Pitino watched Eric Hunter break a school scoring record Tuesday and offered that night.
The offer from Minnesota puts them with Xavier, Butler, Purdue, Creighton, and Nebraska as major conference programs that are heavily recruited the combo guard.
Hunter, who attends Charles A. Tindley Academy, has paid close attention to what the Gophers have done this year and the 13-2 mark has left an impression.
“I definitely think Coach Pitino has things moving in the right direction,” Hunter told GI. “I like the way they play at Minnesota for sure.
“They let their guards create, make plays, and score the ball off of ball screens.”
At this point Minnesota is one of eight programs that is showing Hunter the most interest. Many of the offered schools are calling him often plus a couple others in the Big Ten are showing strong interest.
“I’m hearing the most from Purdue, Butler, Xavier, Nebraska, Creighton, Ohio State and Michigan,” Hunter said.
Hunter is a four star guard ranked 86th nationally in the most recent Scout.com rankings. He’s also the fourth rated player in Indiana for his class.
When Coach Pitino watched Hunter on Tuesday, Eric broke the school scoring record as a junior still early in the season. It was a memorable night for Hunter.
“It was definitely was something I will remember forever. It is an honor and I can't thank anybody else but my teammates and coaches.”
