Michigan LB Trenton Guthrie flips from Western Michigan to the Minnesota Golden Gophers

Michigan LB Trenton Guthrie flips from Western Michigan to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, and he opens up about his decision with GopherIllustrated.

"I just committed to the University of Minnesota about 20 minutes ago and it feels so good," Michigan linebacker Trenton Guthrie said to GopherIllustrated. "So coach P.J. Fleck asked me to call him so I did and he offered me a scholarship to the University of Minnesota. He told me about what he wanted to do with the program and what the future would look like. I already know all about the culture, so he didn't have to explain that, and then I committed to the Gophers."

"Well coach Fleck is always very energetic, and he let out a big yell when I told him I wanted to commit," Guthrie explained to GI. "We are both pretty pumped. We've been building this relationship for a year so it's nice to be able to go with him. I'm very excited to meet the players on the team and I know they'll love their new coach as much as I do. What made me what to commit sight unseen to Minnesota was coach Fleck's culture. He's the coach that I've chosen to invest in, and they are going to be there, so it's going to be elite at Minnesota. Also I researched the facilities and the business program, and both are elite. Plus, they have a heated field. Coach Fleck's press conference really made me feel like it's a place I would call home. Fleck has always told me how much he loves me as a person and how explosive I am off the ball."

Guthrie will be on campus for Minnesota here in a couple weeks.

"I'll be up at Minnesota on January 17th. Minnesota fans should expect energy, high expectations, and we will be ELITE! You're going to love the mic'd up practices Ski-U-Mah and Row the Boat!"
