"We went to the Mall of America, had dinner then after we went to this virtual reality game in the mall," Illinois offensive lineman John Michael Schmitz said to GopherIllustrated. "We were in there for a little bit and then hung out the rest of the night. On Saturday, we toured the Minnesota Vikings stadium, toured the campus and then it's was off to the Border Battle Wisconsin vs Minnesota in Men's Basketball. We went downtown after that and had dinner and Sunday we had breakfast and met with coach Fleck before leaving. My host for the visit was Bryce Witham and he was a very elite guy. He made me feel like I was a part of the family already, and that's what I really liked. He didn't give me a big message, but he just told me how Minnesota is just like a whole big family. It's not one of colleges that say it, but they are one of the colleges that show it."

"The atmosphere at the Gophers basketball game was elite too, like who wouldn't want to be there as Minnesota fans are the best," Schmitz explained. "I just can't wait to see them at football games. I talked a lot with coach Callahan, Warinner and Fleck with my family, and Callahan said he was just really happy to see me and really just checking on me to see how I've been. Coach Warinner was just talking about how he coaches us and a little background about himself and where he's been before. I believe they want me at center and I don't mind, as I used to play center when I was a freshman. Coach Fleck was happy I was with him, and really asking how I was doing. My family loved everything at Minnesota too."

Schmitz is ready to get to Minneapolis and start learning.

"I learned a lot about how the culture is there, and also why Minnesota is the place to be right now. Row the Boat and Ski-U-Mah!"
