Four star 2018 Jalen Carey out of Harlem is the most recently offered Minnesota talent and GI caught up with the 6-foot-4 guard to discuss his most recent offer.

“I knew two guys, Isaiah Washington and Jamir Harris, that committed there,” Jalen explained.  “I haven't gotten a chance to speak to them.

“I never played against those guys but they are tough players.  I want to see their perspectives on why they committed to Minnesota.  I haven't really learned a lot about the school yet.”

Gopher assistant Kimani Young is the coach in touch with Carey but Jalen still has to get to know them.

“I haven't spoken to the coaches much yet, but I want get to know them and see their goals for me and learn more about their program.”

Carey’s offer list includes UCONN, Penn State, St. Joseph’s, DePaul, Pitt, Seton Hall, VCU, Temple, Rutgers, and others.  Others are calling as well.

“Minnesota just offered me,” Carey said.  “Kansas, Notre Dame, UCONN, Seton Hall, and Rutgers have been showing a lot of interest.”

Carey recently talked told Zags Blog that they interest is there to potentially stay home as local programs are on in constant communication.

“I’ve been thinking about staying home for school.  They offer me great positions. They need a guard that can come in and put pressure on the defense, get guys open.

“Just help the team improve, they want to build powerhouse programs around me. I’ve been thinking about that a lot. What I should do if I stay home or go away for school.”

At Immaculate Conception High Jalen is playing some at both guard spots and the year has gone okay to this point.

“Our high school isn't going how we expected but we are looking to turn it around this half of the season,” Carey told GI.

“Me, individually I always try to find ways to improve.  I need to become more of a leader.  Other than that I've been playing well.”

Jalen has goals set in mind about how he wants to improve.

“I need to become more of a leader because that's what coaches are looking for on the next level,” Jalen said.  “Becoming stronger, shooting, and decision making are all things I’m working on.

“There is nothing perfect about me so I need to work on everything.  There are always ways to get better.”
