GopherIllustrated.com: What is your current height and weight? What weight would the Gopher staff like you to report at this summer?
Nate Umlor: I am 6'5" and 260 lbs. and they just want me to come in as strong and ready to play as possible.
GopherIllustrated.com: What are your individual and team goals you hope to accomplish during your college career?
NU: I want us to win Big Ten Championships, Rose Bowl's, and National Championships. I want to play the best competition in college football and we will do that at Minnesota. Individual goals are to be the best player that I can be and be an elite student and person. I just want to be the best Nate Umlor I can be.
GopherIllustrated.com: What are you looking to work on the most this spring to prepare yourself for Big Ten football?
NU: I want to gain muscle and get stronger as well as work on route running and speed and agility so I can come in ready to compete.
GopherIllustrated.com: What future moment are you looking forward to the most as a Gopher?
NU: Playing in the Big 10 at some of the biggest stadiums in the country and winning there.
GopherIllustrated.com: What was the main reason you chose to attend the University of Minnesota?
NU: The main reason was Coach Fleck and his staff. They are the most elite staff in the country and I love the energy and culture he brings. He will help me grow into an elite young man and football player. Also the University and academics are some of the best in the world as well as the city.
GopherIllustrated.com: What team do you want to beat the most as a Gopher and why?
NU: The teams I want to beat the most are Michigan State and Michigan. They are both from my home state and I grew up watching them and I really don't like either of them. They are some of the best schools in the country and I want to play the best because I want to be the best.
GopherIllustrated.com: Is there any unfinished academic business or are you all set to enroll at Minnesota?
NU: I'm all set to enroll.
GopherIllustrated.com: If you don't make it to the NFL, where do you see yourself in 10 years?
NU: Well I see myself in the NFL and that is my main goal but if that does not work out, I see myself married and being successful at whatever I am doing. Just being my best everyday in every aspect of my life.
GopherIllustrated.com: What is it about Coach Fleck and the coaching staff that makes you want to play for them?
NU: The energy and the way they treat people and their players. It is a real FAMILY and I have seen it time and time again and I can not wait to be apart of it. They get the best out of people..
GopherIllustrated.com: What is something you learned about University of Minnesota that surprised you during the recruiting process?
NU: I was really surprised with how amazing the city was because I have never really heard anything about it and it just blew my socks off. The University, city and future for the football program is what sold me.
GopherIllustrated.com: What position do you expect to play at Minnesota? What other position did the Gopher staff mention as a possibility?
NU: They say I am a TE right now. The thing with me is that no one knows how my body will grow because I am still 17 and I could be a 275 lb TE or a 290 lb DE or a 310 lb OL. I think I have the ability to play all three at a high level and I trust the staff and coach Fleck to put me in the best place to get me to the NFL.
GopherIllustrated.com: What have the coaches told you regarding how they plan to utilize your strengths as a player?
NU: They said that I have the HOW competitiveness and will use my size and athleticism to my advantage on the field at wherever they put me at.
GopherIllustrated.com: Have you had any communication with other Minnesota recruits and if so what?
NU: We talk every single day. I probably talk to Kyle Sassack the most. He is going to be my roommate and we are already really close friends and will work really well together on the field.
GopherIllustrated.com: What player do you model your game after and why?
NU: I try to be myself and my own player but I do watch the NFL guys to learn things. I love watching Gronk because he is a 270 pound Tight End who dominates every aspect of the game and I want to be able to do that.
