Pregame

Minnesota is in gold tonight...Minnesota has won three in a row, Indiana has lost five of six.  The Hoosiers will have Juwan Morgan and James Blackmon again but neither is fully healthy.  IU has lost OG Anunoby for the season...Minnesota's Jordan Murphy is the current Co-Player of the Week in Minnesota after two huge games.  Murphy has started with Nate Mason, Akeem Springs, Amir Coffey, and Reggie Lynch....Morgan and Blackmon have started with Thomas Bryant, Robert Johnson, and Josh Newkirk...Indiana is starting Devonte Green for Robert Johnson and going big with De'Ron Davis for Morgan, a center for a forward.

First Half

Amir Coffey ran over, no call.  IU busts through a screen like a fullback through the line, no call.  Richard Pitino gets a technical for the first time in I don’t know how long….Gophers have missed their first seven attempts…Murphy, Lynch, and Coffey have all missed box-outs early plus Coffey and Murphy have lost control of the boards twice….Davis gets whistled for two fouls in just over two minutes…MN 2 IU 8…

Nate Mason with the transition three to cut the IU lead in half.  That is the shot that I saw him make so many times playing with CP3 in the EYBL years back.  His transition jumper and pull-up jumper are the trademark, when they go look out…Love the steal in the passing lane from Springs on the backdoor cut.  Great position defense that is work and positioning…Bakary comes right in and forces a turnover with his position defense….Dribble hand-off into a Mason three.  He looks like he feels the touch this evening…The threes went for Mason but the runner has missed twice…Did IU walk and it not get called? Yep.  Did McBrayer shoulder into his man and not get whistled on the drive? Yep.  It comes and it goes…MN 10 IU 10…

Bakary Konate gave up two offensive boards to Bryant and Newkirk scored.  Bakary just wasn’t strong enough and couldn’t move his feet quick enough to stay with Bryant…Dupree continues to try and attack multiple guys and shoot over them.  Has to either jumpstop to hit or be more patient because this is happening too much in the halfcourt set…Minnesota is not doing a good job of fighting to the attack and stopping ball.  IU coming down hill often…Another missed box out from Reggie Lynch.  Bryant collects and Blackmon hits…MN 12 IU 19…

This looked like a game that Mason was about to explode but he’s gone cold….Mason misses yet again….Reggie Lynch has zero fouls, that is very key for the next 25 minutes of game action….Reggie has battled off the ball to score three times.  They need every bit of him tonight…Mason with a terrible entry pass to Lynch that is stolen.  A struggle for Nate so far…Nate attacks and scores.  He had ten but he’s 3 of 10…MN 20 IU 24…

IU gets an alley-oop dunk out of the break but Minnesota gets the momentum with a Mason three and a Murphy putback.  Gophers countered that immediately…Springs is shooting 0 for 7 so Pitino goes back to McBrayer…Murphy with a three! Finally!....With six seconds left the Gophs only have four fouls so they can foul, and they do…MN 33 IU 29….

Second Half

Reggie Lynch now has three fouls.  He went 15 minutes with none.  Got three in seven minutes. Foulers going to foul I guess…Amir Coffey hits a three as IU goes under the screen on his catch.  Ball needs to be in his hands more…Amir attacks and scores.  There you go…Nate is shooting a lot but IU is giving him a lot too…Bakary forces Bryant into his seventh miss.  Bryant is now 0 for 7 and Bakary just finished a reverse lay-up…IU scores but doesn’t get back, Amir comes down hill to score after a great pass from Mason…Mason with a dirty score in transition tripping his guy up….MN 49 IU 42…

Reggie Lynch picks up his fourth foul of the night.  Zero in first 15 minutes, has four with 12 minutes to go. I guess that license to play more aggressive didn’t work.  Lucky for Minnesota Bakary has played well outside of that one defensive possession….Gophers going to more of that dribble drive/somewhat weave action that worked last game.  Dupree cleared with a dirty move but missed again.  He’s the guy they need back on track…De’Ron Davis makes an NBA three and is in double figures…MN 49 IU 48…

Dupree goes coast to coast off an IU miss but misses the extension lay-up.  IU pushes and Davis scores the And1…Gophers go small with Curry and Murphy up front against both IU centers…Akeem Springs is just off.  Took and missed a transition three when there were better options and he just three a pass into the stands.  Pitino goes back to Dupree who really hasn’t done much better…Jordan Murphy with another double-double at 10 and 12…Too often IU guards are coming on a spring to the rim without any Gopher stepping in help…MN 58 IU 60…

Curry and Murphy are obviously working on their shot in practice or the confidence wouldn’t there to let them shoot the amount they do or they wouldn’t be taking them.  But between the two they are 1 for 4 tonight not to mention 3 for 7 at the foul line.  Need to be smarter about where and when…James Blackmon continues to go off on Minnesota hitting his fourth three and scoring 22 so far…MN 60 IU 65…

Gophers get a stop, a d-board from Lynch, an outlet to McBrayer who finds Coffey for a score.  Nice pass by Dupree…Reggie picks up foul five and is out.  That is never a good sign for this team…Bryant bullies his way through Curry for an And1 using beef.  IU will keep going that way….Coffey with a huge three!  Huge half two from him…Mason gets stuck on Davis so IU scores with a foul shot on the mismatch.  Looked like a travel but the foul from Murphy was first…Minnesota going to Coffey down the stretch and he’s delivering.  Just produced a pair of foul shots on an attack….Huge play by Eric Curry fighting over the post-up and getting a steal….Murphy makes two foul shots and the Gophers have the lead!!...IU goes back to Bryant who pushes Curry to the basket for a score but Mason flies the other way to score….Springs with a grossly bad attempt late but he got his own board and scores to take the lead with 2.9 left. Blackmon didn’t touch him after the release so that o-board is on him…Blackmon misses, Gophers win 75-74….
