"It just felt right," Shelby (Ohio) quarterback Brennan Armstrong said to GopherIllustrated on Saturday evening about his Minnesota commitment. "There was no point in waiting if I knew that Minnesota was where my heart wanted to be, and I've been going through the recruiting process for awhile now, and just with everything coach P.J. Fleck has going for him at Minnesota, it was too much to turn down. I'd been talking with coach Fleck all of last week since I visited, and I spoke with him again tonight before I sat down with my parents, and Minnesota was the school that kept coming up. I've known the coaches at Iowa State and Virginia longer, but coach Fleck made quite the impression, and Minnesota was where I wanted to go."
"My family supports me fully in my decision in committing to Minnesota, so I'm really happy with where I'm at right now," Armstrong explained to GI. "My parents think Minnesota's a great place to be to get my education while furthering my athletic career, so we're all on the same page. What put Minnesota over the other schools recruiting me was definitely coach Fleck. He's just a great fit for me at a school I want to play at, and everything just aligned for me at Minnesota. The people overall at Minnesota when I was on my visit were just different, and those are the kind of people I want to be around. I'll be able to get a great business degree for their business school, and the football program is already in a good place, but I'll be able to help coach Fleck really take it to the next level now. When I called him tonight to commit, he told me now that I'm in the boat, I'll be in the only quarterback they take for the 2018 class, so they'll be done now. I'm just so happy that this weight is off my back, and that I can tell you the recruiting process is over and that I'm a Golden Gopher now.
While Armstrong's decision just was decided, he wants to play a role in others making the same decision to Minnesota.
"Now that I'm committed, I want to start recruiting kids to join me at Minnesota," Armstrong told GI. "The recruitment process is an unbelievable experience and all, but I was ready to be done with it. I want to start recruiting these other recruits with Minnesota offers to come join me. I'm also going to be an early enrollee for the Gophers, as I've already setup my classes for my senior year where I'll be able to do so. It's going to suck to miss baseball as I play center field and pitcher, but it's the best thing for me long-term. I want Gopher fans to know that the 2018 class is going to be the best one that coach Fleck's recruited in his career, and we're going to keep turning the tide forward for Minnesota."
